Our Story

KRUA means kitchen in Thai, and that is exactly what Miranda Loetkhamfu set out to give you. Not a watered down version. A kitchen, in a jar, with her hands already in it.

Miranda learned that flavor is built, never poured. Galangal, lemongrass, makrut lime, chilies, garlic, and shrimp paste go into the mortar whole and come out transformed, pounded in small batches until the oils bloom and the aroma fills the room. It is slow, physical work, and in the tradition she was raised in, it is also a form of care. You cook this way for people you love.

So every KRUA paste arrives finished. Nothing to add (just coconut milk), nothing to correct, no list of ingredients you still have to go buy. Open the jar, and the hardest part is already done, because Miranda already did it.

KRUA sources fresh aromatics, never powdered stand-ins. Galangal that still snaps. Lemongrass cut the same week it is pounded. Makrut lime leaves that perfume your fingers when you tear them. Shelf stable is what the jar does at the end, not a license to start with tired roots and dusty spice tins. A paste is only ever as alive as what went into the mortar.

We want you to open a jar and smell a market, not a pantry. Most of all, we want to widen what people think Thai flavor is, and prove that it does not stop at red, green, and yellow.
